Circular economy - Principles and strategies

Earlier this month on September 4, 2025, we hosted a 2-hour virtual primer on circular economy principles and strategy, engaging more than 250 corporate leaders from 23 countries. These included board members, CFOs, supply chain and procurement heads, operations leaders, and sustainability executives. This introductory session covered core principles, practices, and key policy and market signals to support ongoing growth.
  • The case for circularity. Why linear “take-make-waste” models are exposing firms to resource, cost, compliance, and reputation risk—and where circularity delivers quick operational wins.
  • Global trends & regional adoption. Snapshot of policy and market signals across the EU, Asia, Africa, and LAC that are shaping standards, capital flows, and value-chain expectations.
  • Core principles. Eliminate waste & pollution by design, keep products and materials in use at their highest value, and regenerate natural systems.
  • The Butterfly Diagram. How biological and technical cycles work—and where executives should target high-value loops (reuse, repair, remanufacture) before recycling.
  • The ReSOLVE playbook (six strategies). Regenerate, Share, Optimize, Loop, Virtualize, Exchange—what each means in practice and how to sequence actions inside your business model.
  • Decision tools: MFA & LCA. Using Material Flow Analysis and Life-Cycle Assessment to quantify baselines, locate “hot spots,” and target circular interventions that improve both margins and impact.
  • Next steps for leaders. Governance, procurement and supplier engagement, pilot design, metrics, and scaling pathways.
